Our Program

For each segment of our unit study, there will be a lesson followed by an activity. After exploring the content of our study, we’ll have an opportunity to DO something related to what we have just learned. There will be painting, sculpture, photography, puppet theater, and cooking! We will engage in a monthly STEM challenge together, encouraging creative problem-solving as well as having a growth mindset.

This year, we will be learning about some wonderful plants as we read The Herb Fairies books with corresponding activities together. We will also be reading The Grand Escape by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, The Borrowers by Mary Norton, and Ragweed by Avi- three books about adventure and home- and we will do some world-creating of our own, inspired by these stories.

Nature Journaling and gardening will be two of our main outdoor activities, encouraging us to interact in meaningful ways with the incredible environment we live in while also sharpening our powers of observation.  We believe that participating in these activities creates opportunities for familiarity and wonder to flourish, creating an atmosphere for growth.

Our plan is to be engaging in outdoor games or movement together as a group every week, doing our best to work with the weather! Rounding out our day will be lunch and free play time, both predominantly outside.
